The road to the village leads across
this recent but rickety bridge!
Concrete strips create a durable road
surface which when completed, will open the village to vehicular
traffic for the first time.
One of the new schools, funded by the
generous support of villagers in Oppenhuizen en Uitwellingerga in
Holland. Built for the people by the people.
The view from the classrooms of the new
school encompassing Mt. Agung and the ocean to the north. Surely one of the most beautiful views
from a schoolroom, anywhere!
Bright, motivated children have done exceptionally well in their
exams.
Brave pre-schooler poses for photo.
Pre-school children gather excitedly
around the schools in anticipation of the day when they can join in!
Excited artists display handicrafts
created from Vetiver grass - the 'mainstay' of erosion control and
land reclamation.
The children have an exceptional talent for the arts.
Each child
has their own organic garden which they have created from barren
soil. They grow carrots, spinach and other staple foods which are
new to the villagers.
Fresh drinking water has been a
fundamental revolution for the villagers.
Spring water is collected and
hygienically piped to reservoirs.
